The first major concern for a Chinchilla is TEMPERTURE! Chins are most comfortable at tempertures between 60 & 70 degrees. A chinchilla can easily over heat and die at higher tempertures.

There are easily Hundreds of cages to choose from for your chinchilla. A few things to remember when choosing a cage:

The cage should be at least 24"x24"x24" for one chin.

The sides of a wire cages should have spacing no larger than 1x1 for adults and 1x1/2 for kits. If your cage has a wire floor the spacing should be no larger than 1/2x1/2 spacing.

I do not recommend wire shelves or ramps, it is too easy for a toe or leg to get caught, plus it hurts their little feet to be sitting on wire all day.

A box, tube, or special made house should be provide for you chin, it will give them a nice cozy place to sleep and feel secure. Chins normally like to sleep up high, so when placing the house on a high shelf, find a way to secure it to the cage, so it does not get tipped over, fall, and harm you chin.
